Overview

Eight Fates (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates eightfates.me. This policy explains what information is processed when you calculate, save, purchase, or receive a BaZi reading.

Information We Process

Birth details and reading data

We process the birth date, birth time, birthplace or city, and gender you enter to calculate a Four Pillars chart. To make a private reading link work, the server stores the derived chart, introductory summary, selected gender, a random reading identifier, and creation time. The saved server record does not include the city or the raw birth-date form fields.

Email address

We process your email when you request delivery, begin checkout, purchase a reading, or explicitly opt in to updates. Checkout and access records may use a one-way hash of the normalized email to match a Gumroad receipt to the correct reading. Marketing email is sent only when you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Payment information

Gumroad processes checkout and payment information. We receive purchase details needed to confirm access and support the transaction, such as the buyer email, sale ID, status, and date. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.

Usage and technical data

We use first-party aggregate event counts, Google Analytics, and Vercel Analytics to understand page visits, referral sources, device and browser characteristics, and product interactions. Our product events are not intentionally sent with birth details or email addresses. Analytics providers may process standard technical identifiers under their own policies and our configuration.

How We Use Information

• Calculate and display the BaZi chart and reading you request.
• Create a private link and reconnect a purchase to the correct reading.
• Deliver reading and purchase-related email and provide support.
• Send optional updates only with your consent.
• Measure reliability, prevent abuse, and improve the Service.
• Meet accounting, security, and legal obligations.

Browser Storage

During the form flow, session storage may hold the birth details, city, gender, email, and current step you entered so a reload does not erase your progress. It normally lasts for the browser-tab session unless you clear it sooner.

Local storage may keep the most recent derived chart and reading, private reading ID, gender, email, and checkout context so you can return after payment. This browser copy remains until you clear site data or a later reading replaces it. Anyone with access to that browser profile may be able to view it.

When Information Is Shared

We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, process a transaction, or meet legal and security obligations, including to:

• Hosting and database providers that run the website and private reading links.
• Gumroad, which processes checkout, payment, receipts, and payment-related support.
• An email-delivery provider for requested readings, receipts, support, and opted-in updates.
• Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics for usage measurement.
• Authorities or advisers when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users and the Service.

Data Retention

• Server-side reading records and related checkout attribution expire after up to 90 days.
• Session and local browser storage remain as described above until they expire, are replaced, or you clear them.
• Delivery and subscriber records remain while needed to provide the service, until deletion is requested, or until you unsubscribe from optional updates.
• Purchase records may be retained as needed for access, refunds, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
• Analytics data follows the retention controls of the relevant analytics provider and our configuration.

Your Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information. You can also unsubscribe from optional email and clear Eight Fates site data in your browser settings. We may need to retain limited transaction information where the law requires it.
